Urdu Gazals - the language of emotions

With their way of delivery and the emotional attachment, the Urdu Ghazals are really soothing. Ghazals, along with the Nazam and Sufiana themes, are rich in emotions. Their expressiveness of fun, love and hate etc. are their assets. Thanks to Ghazal writers such as Galib and Mir, and the singers like Gulam Ali, Nushrat Fateh Ali Khan; the Ghazals have becomes the favorite of both masses and classes.

In fact it’s the well known fact that one, who likes Ghazal and similar music, is most matured audience. Researches have shown this. It shows the audiences nature. The kind of music he or she listens, it is the indicator of one’s inclination. And it changes regularly. People usually change their taste. The more slow and classical music, be it Urdu music or Indipop, one likes; the more stable is his emotions and thoughts.

Since Ghazals provide a deep, shooting and simulating entertainment; one, who listens such music is bound to be overwhelmed by the emotions they express.

An example of Urdu poetry, where Ghalib compares himself to his great predecessor, the master poet Mir, may probably prove its expressiveness and funny side:

“Rekhta ke tumhin ustad nahin ho Ghalib

Kahte hain agle zamane mein koi Mir bhi tha.”

It’s the Galib’s main characteristic, that when he expresses the most deep feeling, he inevitably adds some fun also. This made him the greatest Urdu poets.

This is the magic of Galib and his distinctive Nazams and Ghazals.
